John Sidney McCain III is an American politician and at present the Senior US Senator from the State of Arizona on behalf of the Republican Party. In the election of 2000 he was a presidential candidate but however was defeated by George W. Bush for the Republican nomination.

It was his graduation from the Naval Academy in 1958, which pushed John McCain to pursue a career as a Naval aviator. In the year 1982, he was elected to the Congress with the representation of an area what was then the first congressional district of Arizona. In 1986, he was elected to the United States Senate to take the place of Arizona's great Senator Barry Goldwater. He still hails from the same State and at present is the Senior Senator from Arizona.

In the Presidential election of 2004 he was found publicly supporting the candidature of  the then President Bush who was at that time on the threshhold of getting re-elected.though being defeated by the same person he was found not to remorse but was widely accpedted as a great advocator by showering praise of Bush's leadership since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 on the World Trade Center in New York. However, McCain's reputation and approach as a moderate appealed to many voters to whom President Bush was quite conservative. In the 2000 elections, to many Bush was the more conservative candidate in comparision to McCain, the more moderate candidate according to some portion of the electoral college. According to Voteview.com, McCain's voting record in the 109th Congress was the third most conservative among senators. On the contrary, his voting record during the 107th Congress, from the month of January 2001 through November 2002, gave him a place as the 6th most liberal Republican senator, according to the same analysis at voteview.com.

McCain announced of his contending in the 2008 US Presidential Election and is seeking nomination from the GOP on February 28, 2007 telecast of the Late Show With David Letterman. On April 25, 2007 shortly after noon in Prescott Park on the waterfront of Portsmouth, NH McCain officially kicked off his 2008 presidential campaign. There is a speculation that if he manages to win the election in 2008, he would be the oldest person to assume the Presidency in history at the initial ascension to the office, being 72 years old and even surpassing the legendary Ronald Reagan who was 69 years old at the time of his inauguration following the 1980 election. In the event of his victory in 2008, if it happens, he would also become the first President of the United States to be born in a U.S. territory outside of the current 50 states.
