England international and now a player of Los Angeles Galaxy, David Beckham was born in Leytonstone, London on 2.5.1975. This star footballer has millions of fans spread over all parts of the world. He began his professional career in the hallowed grounds of Manchester United and played his first game in 1992. Beckham was a key figure in MU in the 1990s and early 2000s, being a major contributor to the success of the team that won the triple crown of the Premier League, FA Cup and European Champion’s League in 1999. After a tiff with his mentor, Sir Alex Ferguson he left MU and signed for Real Madrid in 2003. He had mixed fortunes in Spain, but ended his stay there winning the La Liga in 2007. Beckham then joined Los Angeles Galaxy in July 200t to play Major League soccer in the United States.

Beckham captained England from November 2000 to July 2006. In his first World Cup in 1998, he saw the red card in a crucial game against Argentina and was blamed for England’s exit. He gave up captaincy after England’s ouster from the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Initially dropped from the team, Beckham was later recalled to the side in 2007.

One of the richest sportspersons in the world, Beckham is now a brand popular throughout the world. He married Victoria Adams, a member of the music group “Spice Girls” in July 1999. Although Beckham has been linked with several sex scandals, their marriage has survived. They have three sons: Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz. In view of his huge popularity, a film was named Bend It Like Beckham in which archive footage of the footballer was used. Look-alikes of the Beckhams were used in some scenes as they could not give time for shooting.
