Michael Dale "Mike" Huckabee was the Governor of the U.S. State of Arkansas from the year 1996 to 2007. He was the third Governor on behalf of the Republicans of the State since the Reconstruction of the very State happened.
Born to the family of Mae Elder and Dorsey W. Huckabee he was elected the Governor of the State of Boys in 1972. before joining the political mainstram Huckabee was the Pastor of several Southern churches in Arkadelphia, Texarkana, and also of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was seen as also serving served as the President of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention from the year 1989 to 1991 and as the President of a religious-oriented television station.
While in his first political race, he however lost to the then newcomer U.S. Senator Dale Bumpress (D) in 1992 while garnering avoting percentage of merely 40% in this respect the electin in 1993 ws of a special siginificance to him when it was held shortly after the general election and Huckabee was able to win the special election, thus becoming the second Republican since the phase of Reconstruction to serve as the Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas. Huckabee was re-elected to a full term as lieutenant governor in 1994.
It was on July 15, 1996 when he was sworn in as the next Governor of the State of Arkansas. Before him there was the resignation of Tucker, that earned a great attention at that time due to his conviction in the Watergate Scandal. He rescinded his resignation as Huckabee was preparing to be sworn in. Within a very hours afer the resignation of Tucker was reinstated Huckabee was enableed to ttake the oath. Shortly after taking the charge of the office, Huckabee was instrumental in signing legislation while creating ARKids First, a health insurance program designed to provide insurance to children of families who could not qualify for Meicaid but also at the same time being devoid of affording the notion or scheme of private insurance.
It was also in November 1998, when Huckabee got elected to a full four-year term, and thus receiving the highest percentage of votes for a Republican seeking statewide office in the history of Arkansas. He was fortunate to defeat the retired Colonel Gene McVay of Fort Smith in the primry and Jonesboro attorney Bill Bristow in the general election.
However, it was on 27th January, 2007 when he was reported to file papers towards he formation of a Presidential Exploratory Committee. On the following day of 28th January,2007 he made the official announcement to compete for ascending the highest designation of the White House.
