It is found, so rarely in the history of a nation a man who can be truly acclaimed as the Pride of the Nation, by virtue of his dedication and noble exploits. In the same manner only one man stands supreme and can be hailed by the tiles of ‘Pride of the Nation” and he is none except than, Dr. Lupo T. Carlota, the ongoing President and Founder of the Medical Acupuncture Research Institute of America. It is known in the social environment the United States that the institution, Medical Acupuncture Research Institute of America is not only of higher learning dedicated to the study, research, and development of modern scientific acupuncture but also has been tirelessly in the service of the nation and the nationality ever since its commencement. The only responsible individual or entity behind this great work has been Dr. Lupo T. Carlota himself.
Dr. Carlota has been widely recognized throughout his career for his intense effort towards the saga simplifying the study of acupuncture by the means of the medical practitioners of the western world. It is this tireless effort that has earned him laurels not only from the national realm but also across the world irrespective of political boundaries; mad making him to received numerous accolades for his breakthroughs in scientific researches and publications on the subject. It was the year 1993, when he was felicitated by the then President of Philippines Fidel V. Ramos. The President awarded Dr. Carlota with the "Pamana Ng Bayan" (Legacy of the Nation) award, the country's highest honor in recognition of exemplary service performed by Filipinos living overseas. He has been intensely vigorous in the Filipino American community which has been his dream ever since his boyhood and this urge has made him to serve as the President of several organizations that included the Association of Philippine Physicians in America, the nationwide organization of the 25,000 Filipino American doctors serving in the grassroots communities across the United States; the Philippine Medical Association of Tennessee; the National Filipino American Council, a hub organization for Filipino Americans and last but not the least the Filipino American Empowerment Movement. His self less and untiring work made him the cherished man of the people at large cutting across political allegiances and in 1993 he was elected the honorable Vice Mayor of the City of Lakeland and was also elected in the position of serving on the city's Board of Commissioners.
In respect of his educational qualification, he earned his Doctorate of Medicine in 1960 from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1965, which was followed by his completion of an internship and a psychiatric residency in Cleveland, Ohio, and Warren, Pennsylvania, in that order.
