John Forbes Kerry is the Junior United States Senator from Massachusetts and in his fourth term of office. He has been recently declared as the Presidential nominee of the Democratic party. It was in the year 2004 Presidsential Election when he was however defeated by the then incumbent Republican party candidate, the present President George W. Bush. At present he is designated as the Chairman of the United States Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
He was born on December 11, 1943 at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Colorado in the family of a volunteer in the Army Air Corps who was in the charge of flying DC-3's and B-29's as a test pilot during World War II; his mother was a enduring community activist and devoted parent. 126 As his father in the Foreign Service he had undertaken a lot of travels in his childhood and learnt the principles from very close quarters that had elevated the USA to the most prominent state in the world. But 180 however it was the Vietnam War in the late 60’s and early 70’s that had a profound impact on his consciousness. Being an ardent patriot he thought it wise to serve in the national army and devoted two years in duty serving in the battlefield of Vietnam. But however, the bitter experiences in the war field along with the horrors pained his soul transforming him into a crusader advocating issues and demonstrations against the war. It was the sensitive nature that made him approachable to different communities and that led to the success in 1982 when he was elected as the Lieutenant Governor. While in the office, he took an epoch-making decision organizing the nation's Governors to struggle against the acid rain that was polluting lakes, rivers, and the nation's water supply. As the Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, he worked tirelessly with John McCain to unearth the mystery behind the missing American soldiers in Vietnam and to ease relations with that country. |
