Bollywood runs in Hrithik Roshan’s blood. His father is former actor and present director, Rakesh Roshan; his grandfather is Roshan, the famous music director of the 1950s and 60s whose songs are still popular. His uncle, Rajesh composes the music for most of his films. So, Hrithik’s entry into films was only to be expected. He cut his teeth in Bollywood assisting his father in Karan Arjun and Koyla. But with a great body like Sylvester Stallone and extraordinary dancing skills, it was only a matter of time before Hrithik became a hero himself.
His debut film as hero was his father’s Kaho Na Pyar Hai in 2000, and what a debut it was! KNPH became a blockbuster and Hrithik the craze of the entire nation. The film, as well as Hrithik, was flooded with rewards. Fiza and Mission Kashmir followed, but they met with only moderate success. In 2001, Hrithik tasted success again with Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. After a string of flops in 2002, he came back with a vengeance with a superhit Koi... Mil Gaya in 2003. His only film in 2004 was Lakhsya which received a lukewarm response. After a two-year hibernation, Hrithik reemerged in 2006 as the superhero in Krrish, which turned out to be a major hit. His latest release was Dhoom 2, in which he did a villainous role for the first time. Hrithik is now busy working in Asutosh Gowariker’s period film Jodha Akbar.
In 2001, he had to pay for his growing popularity when he was falsely accused of making some uncharitable remarks about Nepal leading to severe protests in which four people were killed. Hrithik is happily married to Sussanne, his high-school sweetheart and daughter of veteran actor Sanjay Khan. They were blessed with a son, Hrehaan in March 2006.
