David Robert Joseph Beckham is a renowned English professional footballer and is a star player currently playing for Real Madrid. He was named as a member of Pele’s FIFA 100. He has been regarded as the fifth most capped English player of all time and has twice been the runner up in the FIFA World Player of the Year Award in 1999 and 2001. He has also been the only English palyer in the recorded history and also the only player to score in three consecutive different World Cups. He has also been regarded as the only the ninth player in World Cup history to score twice from direct free kicks. He was Captain of the national English team from 15 November to 2 July 2006. he has also been recognized in addition to his success by the Time magazine as one of 2004's first 100 Heroes & Icons and also the elitist global advertising brand.
His career was initiated when he signed a professional contract with the Manchester United, making his first first-team appearance in 1992, at the age of just 17. While with Manchester United he played a key role in their dominance of the FA Premier League in the 1990s and early 2000s, being pivotal in accomplishing The Treble of the League, FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League in 1999. He again left the club to become only the third Englishman to sign for the Spanish Club Real Madrid in 2003, after the erstwhiel players Laurie Cunningham and Steve McManaman.
In 2006, after England's quarter-final exit at the World Cup in Germany, he stepped down as captain and was succeeded by the Chelsea captain John Terry. Beckham was dropped from the the National Team of England squad selected by coach Steve McClaren on 11 August 2006.

He has always supported the UNICEF since his days at Manchester United and in January 2005 while as the England Football Captain he became a Goodwill Ambassador with a special focus on UNICEF's Sports for Development programme.
