Known for his incisive news analysis, Bill Moyers is an eminent TV journalist in America with over thirty Emmy Awards to his credit. He began his journalistic career at the age of 16 as a cub reporter with the Marshall News Messenger in Texas where he grew up.
Bill Moyers was appointed Assistant Director of Public Affairs for the newly created Peace Corps under Kennedy Administration in 1961.He served it as Deputy Director for two years from 1962. After the assassination of Kennedy, he became a special assistant to President Johnson and served him with different capacity including his Press Secretary till 1967.
After retiring from White House, Bill Moyers resumed his journalistic career when he served as publisher for the Long Island New York daily newspaper Newsday from 1967 to 1970. From 1971 Moyers began working for the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) hosting the popular Bill Moyers Journal, which ran till 1981.
Bill Moyers moved to CBS and worked as news analyst and commentator for CBS Evening News for six years from 1981. In 1986, Moyers and his wife Judith formed Public Affairs Television and their first production was the popular PBS series Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth. Moyers briefly joined the NBC in 1995 as news analyst.
Bill Moyers hosted the TV news journal Now with Bill Moyers on PBS for three years from 2001. He also hosted Wide Angle in 2005. In 2006, he presented public television series Faith and Reason, a series of conversation with esteemed writers of various faiths or no faith.
Bill Moyers recent program is Moyers on America that analyzes different important issues including eco problems, Iraq War and also the problems of Internet known as Net at Risk. He resumed Bill Moyers Journal with the PBS in 2007. Recipient of the 2006 Lifetime Emmy, Bill Moyers won over thirty Emmy and virtually every other television journalism awards including a gold baton from the Dupont Journalism Award, a Lifetime Parody Award. He won George Polk Award for three times for investigating reporting. The National Television Academy honored him with its highest order Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
Bill Moyers is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and a recipient of numerous honorary degrees by different universities. He is also a member of Schumann Center for Media and Democracy.
